What is a calorie deficit?
A calorie deficit means eating fewer calories than your estimated maintenance level. This calculator simply performs that arithmetic using the maintenance estimate you provide.
It does not determine your true energy expenditure. Maintenance calories are themselves estimates and can change as activity, body weight and other factors change.
How this calculator works
Enter your maintenance calorie estimate and choose either a fixed calorie reduction or a percentage reduction.
The calculator subtracts the selected deficit from maintenance calories and multiplies the daily difference by seven to show the weekly calorie gap.
Calorie deficit and Indian diets
A calorie target can be used with familiar Indian meals. Rice, roti, dal, vegetables, curd, paneer, eggs, chicken, fish and other foods can fit into a structured eating plan depending on portions and the overall diet.
Use a deficit target with meal tracking
Planning a target is only one part of the process. Recording actual meals can help you compare your routine with your planned intake.
